How It Works

Create a Discord Bot

Go to the Discord Developer Portal, create a new Application, go to the Bot tab, and copy the token. Make sure to enable the Message Content Intent under Privileged Gateway Intents.

Create the Application

Open discord.com/developers/applications and log in
Click New Application (top right)
Name it whatever you want (this is the app name, not the bot's display name) and click Create

Create the Bot & Copy the Token

In the left sidebar, click Bot
If you want a custom avatar/name, set them here under the username and icon fields
Click Reset Token → Yes, do it!
Click Copy to grab your bot token — save this somewhere safe, you can only see it once

Enable Privileged Intents

Scroll down to Privileged Gateway Intents (still on the Bot page)
Turn ON Message Content Intent — this is required so the bot can read messages
Server Members Intent is optional — UnrealHQ bots don't request it, so you can leave it off
Click Save Changes at the bottom

Invite the Bot (no OAuth2 URL generator needed)

Register the token below. UnrealHQ builds the invite link for you with exactly the permissions the bot uses (View Channels, Send Messages & Threads, Read History, Embed Links, Attach Files, Add Reactions, External Emojis, Create Invite, Manage Messages) plus the applications.commands scope so slash commands show up.
Click Invite to Server on the bot's card, pick your server, and approve.
Optional: turn on Moderation Tools on the card to add Kick, Ban, Moderate Members and Manage Channels — then open the invite link once more so Discord grants them. Never grant Administrator.

Most common issue: If your bot can see messages but can't read what people type, the Message Content Intent is off. Go back to the Bot page and make sure it's toggled ON with changes saved.

Give the Bot Its Character

A bot token is a character — the bot is the character card, and it can be invited to as many servers as you like. Build the character in The Atelier (personality, codex, commands), then pick it in the bot's dropdown here. One character per bot; a character already used by another bot is greyed out.

Invite & Start

Picking a character brings the bot online by itself (Start/Stop are there if you ever need them). Use the invite link to add it to a Discord server — a bot with no character will join but stay offline, so do this step first. Your character is live — @mention it, reply to it, or DM it. Picked the wrong character? Choose another unused one and a running bot restarts by itself; once you're sure, Lock makes the pairing permanent.
